Having lost the U.S. business of Russian Standard about a year and a half ago, Rémy Cointreau USA has now filled the premium vodka void in its portfolio with Zubrówka Bison Grass Vodka via a new exclusive agreement with Polish brand-owner Central European Distribution Corp (CEDC).

Pernod Ricard USA is expanding its “Accept Responsibility” campaign promoting responsible drinking through new video messages set for wide distribution on various social media platforms. Pernod’s U.S. media agency, Carat, is engaging distribution partners such as SocialVibe, VideoEgg and Tremor Media.

Beam Global has appointed Byron Hoover to the position of Vice President of Global Whiskey. Hoover was most recently the Vice President of client services at the advertising and design firm Arnell Group. Hoover will officially step into his new role on February 1.

Actor Bruce Willis has purchased a 3.3% stake in French spirits group Belvédère SA for an undisclosed amount. Under a related multi-year pact, Willis will promote Belvédère’s Sobieski vodka in North America. Sobieski has thrived in the U.S. since its 2007 release, but Belvédère as a whole remains strapped with hundreds of millions of euros’ debt.

Diageo has introduced a new Johnnie Walker extension, Double Black, into select travel retail locations. Priced at a premium to Johnnie Walker’s flagship Black label, Double Black is created using peaty whiskies from Scotland’s West Coast, resulting in a bolder, smokier incarnation of the brand. The new entry will be available in 1-liter bottles, smoky gray-colored to reflect its flavor. Double Black’s test period—during which it will be carried at the Bangkok, Dubai, Lebanon, New York (JFK), Singapore and Sydney international airports—will run through June.

Russian Standard Vodka USA has strengthened its U.S. executive team with two new additions. Michael Stoner has been named the unit’s Vice President of Marketing. He replaces Drew Beaver. The group also announced the appointment of Bob MacNevin to the position of Vice President of National Accounts and Military.

South African wine exports are growing rapidly, despite a stagnant global economy. In the 12 months ending June 2009, total South African wine exports surged by 14.2 percent to 45 million cases, bucking even the South African rand’s rising value.
