CWNA CEO Fernandez Dies At 54

Jose Fernandez, CEO of Constellation Brands’ North American wine business, died January 1 after long battling brain cancer. He was 54. A 30-year veteran of the wine industry, Fernandez joined Constellation in 2001 and played an integral role in the company’s metamorphosis into a global wine giant, including the acquisition and integration of Robert Mondavi Corp, Vincor and Beam Wine Estates. He ascended to the CEO post of Constellation Wines North America in 2007.

WJ Deutsch Forms JV With Corpora

W.J. Deutsch & Sons Ltd and South American wine producer Corpora Group have formed a joint venture that will bring new wines from Chile and Argentina to the U.S. market via Deutsch’s distribution network starting next summer. The companies plan to develop two new labels, one consisting of a Chilean Chardonnay and a Pinot Noir both sourced from the Bío Bío valley, and another consisting of a Argentine Malbec from the Patagonia region.

Diageo Won't Rule Out Moving Headquarters Abroad

Diageo chief executive Paul Walsh said he won’t rule out the possibility that Diageo will move its headquarters out of the United Kingdom, prompted by recent U.K. corporate tax hikes. Walsh said in a Wednesday interview on Sky News that Diageo is “looking at all its options.”

B-F Posts Strong Profit Growth, Sales Flat

Brown-Forman saw strong profit growth on the back of lower advertising, selling, general and administrative costs in its fiscal first half, ended October 31. Operating income rose 15% to $418 million.
