Pernod Ricard USA has announced the creation of a new post and the appointment of a new member to its marketing team. Tim Murphy, who has been working with Pernod USA as the Vice President of Marketing, Gins and Vodkas, will step into the new role of Vice President, Marketing Innovation, while Jonas Renner Tahlin has joined Pernod from The Absolut Co as its Vice President of Marketing, Vodkas.

Bacardi USA has added Tia Maria coffee liqueur to its stable, following an exclusive U.S. distribution agreement with Tia Maria brand-owner Illva Saronno of Italy (Illva Saronno purchased Tia Maria from Pernod Ricard for €125 million ($184m) this summer).

Diageo North America has elected to merge its innovation and marketing departments under the guidance of Peter McDonough, who has been named President, Chief Marketing and Innovation Officer. McDonough, who will report to Diageo USA President Larry Schwartz, has been President of North America innovation since he joined Diageo three years ago.

Walter (Rich) Richardson has been named General Manager of Artesa Vineyards & Winery. Richardson will oversee all winery operations including brand marketing, business planning and administrative duties related to the winemaking process. Richardson was previously Vice President, Director of Sales and Marketing at Justin Vineyards and Winery.

Lee Schrager has been promoted from Director of Media Relations and Special Events to Vice President, Corporate Communications and National Events at Southern Wine & Spirits of America (SWS). In his new role, which is in effect an expansion of his previous position, Schrager will be charged with expanding relationships in Southern’s local markets and promoting the company and its suppliers’ brands to both retailers and consumers through large-scale events.

Constellation Brands has promoted Jay Wright to the position of President, Constellation Wines North America, effective immediately. Wright was previously Executive Vice President and Chief Commercial Officer of Constellation Wines U.S., a post he assumed this past March.

The Other Guys, currently a division of Don Sebastiani & Sons, has appointed August Sebastiani as its President. Sebastiani joined Don & Sons in 2002 as the Managing Director of The Other Guys, and will now oversee the division’s transition into an independent company, which it becomes on January 1, 2010.

Codorníu Group’s U.S. import company, Aveníu Brands, has reached an agreement with Bronco Wine Co. that grants Aveníu the exclusive U.S. marketing and distribution rights to Codorníu Cava.

Convenience chain 7-Eleven is branching into the value wine category with its own label, Yosemite Road, featuring Chardonnay and Cabernet Sauvignon varietals, both from California. Produced by value segment stalwart The Wine Group, Yosemite Road is retailing for $4 per 750ml in most of the U.S., and $5 in Florida due to state taxes.
Codorníu USA CEO Kenton assumes role on interim basis

Roy Danis has resigned as President of Aveníu Brands. Danis had been President of Aveníu (formerly AV Brands) since Codorníu purchased the importer in late 2007. Mike Kenton, Codorníu USA’s CEO, has assumed the responsibilities of President on an interim basis, and plans for permanent replacement haven’t been established.
