The London- and NYC-based Orient-Express Hotels, Trains & Cruises acquired its first West Coast property with the purchase of El Encanto Hotel and Garden Villas in Santa Barbara.

The company plans to close the property in the fall for a $10 million revamp, restoring the historic buildings and bringing 1970s additions in line with the property's overall California Craftsman/Spanish Colonial Revival style. The reopening is planned for spring 2006.
