Banfi Begins Importing Chateau Tanunda

Banfi Vintners has begun importing wines from Chateau Tanunda winery in Australia’s Barossa Valley region. Banfi now has sole responsibility over Chateau Tandunda’s import, marketing and distribution in the United States. The product line  includes Chateau Tanunda Grand Barossa Riesling 2009 ($16 a 750-ml.), Chateau Tanunda Grand Barossa Shiraz ($19), Chateau Tanunda Noble Baron Shiraz ($50) and Chateau Tanunda Noble Baron Cabernet Sauvignon ($50).

Built in the 1880s, Chateau Tanunda claims to be Australia’s oldest winery. A veritable Who’s Who of famed Australian winemakers has worked or studied at the estate, including Max Hubert (creator of Grange Hermitage), Bill Seppelt, Grant Burge and Geoff Merrill. Today Chateau Tanunda is owned by Australian businessman John Geber. The estate has 220 acres of vines and hosts over 100,000 visitors a year.
